entendre_amnesia is an interactive audio-visual project placing the user in control, to steer and explore the spaces of the inner and outer worlds, and all the in-between. It is a place for reflection, reminiscence and exploration. The lofi-hiss and the slowed, warped sounds recorded on tape evoke feelings of nostalgia, ghosts, entities from the beyond, and memories of times once gone and forgotten.
But it is not just looking back, but looking forward that brings new discoveries. entendre_amnesia is all of this and more.

Visitors were invited to interact with the hardware visual setup, interfacing with the distant realm of entendre_amnesia. The perspective shifter (the rectangular device to the left in front of screen) serves as a crossfader between the two realms of existence: our own, and theirs. The RGB colourscope (cylindrical device to the right in front of screen) is another device allowing the user to morph the visions brought to the screen, and to explore and navigate their way through this new world as it unfurls itself before them.
All the while, the radio broadcasts frequencies, soundscapes, fragments, captured from explorations and brought into our existence, through the medium of tape. Translations of materials with unknown origin into frequencies that we can only interpret through our understanding of sound. The tape recordings through the radio playback form an audible communication between these two worlds.

The installation was shared with a fellow collaborator, Ray Poon, at the small community space, Open Tiny. Previously a kiosk, the old disused shop front was the perfect setting for our experiment. The setup for entendre_amnesia is shown below:

Further Experimentation

During the latter course of the two days, it was in Ray’s and my plan to find some way to combine both of our separate endeavours together, hence the decision to co-host the space. Ray himself was exploring the realm of sound by digital means, through instruments which he had developed in software devices.
Throughout some discoveries made by ourselves and visitors who had stopped by, we found more ways to communicate between entendre_amnesia and the outside world:
With each new iteration of visitors, combinations of sound and video, and explorations within this space we had set up, there brought with it many new discoveries and a constant evolution. For this, there is no end, only infinity, in all directions.
